The Afterlife of Words

Falling%20Stars%20Abstract

I know words can live
forever, but
what I want
to know,
is regarding the
moment
forever chooses
to end,

the universe takes
its next,
successive steps,

where in the
world will my
words
opt to
lay their heads?

Is there a
predestined
place they will
finally come
to rest?

Will it be at
the behest of
the next era, the new age,
complete darkness or
a brand new page?

Like comets in
a renewed sky,

will they try to escape?

Or are
they at home
in orbit,

protecting something
important,
something more than
material life itself?

They could form
their own
asteroid belt.

Appeal to the
science of gods and
their planets,
help them
chart and
plan them.

Be the sand to
earth’s granite and man,
it will be amazing.

Just the words
and the phrasing of
creation

that justifies
this
pen chasing
a high no drug could
attempt.

What will your
words be in
their next life?

  1. Excellent thought, great execution–though you could lose the second to the last stanza and I would not give it a thought–I saw you looked in on my post seconds after I posted and was curious. I’m glad I was.>KB

    • Thank you for the suggestion, it is always nice to receive a bit of constructive criticism! Looking at that stanza now, I can see what you mean.

I enjoy the layout of your site, Your poems sit well, too. :)

Love the poem that phrase in particular hit home. So describes a writer. I often wonder why I’m driven to write, now I realize I’m just addicted. Thanks

  4. The white noise of the next universe, the white noise of the last, muttered thoughts, scratched messages, attempts to sustain the unsustainable: the instant of now, pinned to a dead language, thought too big for itself, hot air, black hole, white noise, verse reverse obverse, the other side where new DNA coagulates upon the small gravities of emotive, speculative, evolving sound…..

  6. Fascinating read. Thank you for viewing
my thread. New to interacting with other writers. I will try to follow yours, if my link
    up is successful.

  7. This reminds me of all the times I went through my blog and trashed every single thing I had written in fear of “The Afterlife of Words”, and that I might have offended the Creator by being wrong with my extra-ordinary imagination.
I have no doubt that you just put the tail right on the donkey’s posterior!
Thanks for the reminder :) -Loretta

  8. Very telling commentary – leaves us thinking about what is real, what is perhaps needless. Thanks. And thanks for visiting my site and the ‘like.’

  9. Beautifully written, I love the imagery. You have me thinking. I hope my words live like ghosts beyond my existence, hanging around and haunting the living and if they are at rest, then perhaps they will find their final homes in echoes of other writers. Thank you for recently liking my words in ‘The Promised Land.’
